A trip with his father to the village in the Dolomites where his family comes from would be the perfect excuse to better understand Parent 2, but Zerocalcare and his father are incapable of talking to each other about many things. This makes the trip difficult, when it is understood that their family is not looked upon favorably - indeed, by some it is downright hated in the village. The roots of hatred date back to before the Great War, and are intertwined with the mystery that has surrounded, for thirty-five years, the most mysterious day of Calcare's life, the one that he has remembered since he was a child as "Merman's day". In the interstices of the unsaid, the unshakable love of a father for his only son passes through some of the darkest pages of the history of our country, silently courageous.
